If you have a child with special needs, it can be difficult to find the right fit in a summer program. The good news is that Summer Spark rounds up camps that welcome kids of all abilities.

From summer programming in Clark Park to Reading and Rhythm on the Detroit Riverfront (both free!), you’ll find many programs that can support the needs of your child. What’s more, there are programs designed specifically for children with special needs, such as:

Living and Learning. This summer camp in Northville offers teens and young adults with autism and related challenges opportunities to learn about independence, healthy peer relationships and jobs within the community.

Team GUTS. With research supplied by Dr. Dale Ulrich, Head of the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, GUTS Training Center offers programs for individuals with special needs, including strength training, yoga, dance, ballet, Zumba and martial arts, as well as sports-specific programs like soccer and baseball.

To find more programs, explore our Summer Spark Program Finder. First narrow the criteria you want to search by: keyword, county, grade, ZIP, location, focus area, days and/or cost. Once you see the search results, look for “ADA Services: Yes” in the text.

What to look for:

  • Staff that are specially trained in special needs
  • Extra adults on site for support
  • Camps with ADA services (listed in our program descriptions)
